The Secret of Tarot Cards

Tarot cards are a deck of 78 cards used for divination, spiritual guidance, and introspection. They are commonly associated with fortune-telling but are also used for meditation, self-discovery, and storytelling. The deck is divided into two main sections:

1. Major Arcana (22 cards)

These cards represent major life themes, spiritual lessons, and significant events. Examples include The Fool, The Lovers, and The World. Each card holds symbolic imagery and meanings that reflect archetypal experiences.

2. Minor Arcana (56 cards)

These cards are divided into four suits—Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles—similar to playing card suits. Each suit contains:

Ace through 10 cards, representing different stages or aspects of life.

Court cards: Page, Knight, Queen, and King, symbolizing people, roles, or personality traits.

Each card has a unique interpretation that depends on its imagery, position (upright or reversed), and context within a spread (a layout of cards used in a reading).

History

Tarot cards originated in the 15th century in Europe as a card game. In the late 18th century, they gained popularity as tools for mysticism and esoteric practices, particularly through the influence of occultists like Antoine Court de Gébelin and later the Rider-Waite-Smith deck created in 1909.

Modern Use

Today, tarot is widely used for personal insight, creative inspiration, and spiritual connection, with interpretations varying based on the reader's perspective or tradition.
